2003 Fonseca Vintage Port Portugal
The 2003 Fonseca Vintage Port is a powerful and age-worthy expression from one of the great names in Vintage Port. Fonseca has been a first-rank Vintage Port producer since the mid-19th century, and this classic Vintage Port is a blend drawn from the estate's three historic quintas: Cruzeiro, Panascal, and Santo Antonio. The 2003 growing season began with a very wet winter, followed by warm, bright conditions during flowering. Intense summer heat in early August was followed by cooler weather and two perfectly timed days of rain, helping the grapes reach balanced maturity before a warm, dry September harvest. The wine shows concentrated blackberry, blackcurrant, cherry, dark chocolate, cocoa, spice, and mint, supported by firm yet silky tannins and remarkable depth. Built to age for decades in bottle, this is a rich and powerful Port that can be enjoyed with blue cheese, walnuts, dried figs and apricots, or simply on its own after dinner.
Serving Tip: As a 2003 Vintage Port with more than 20 years of bottle age, this wine may have developed natural sediment over time. Fonseca recommends decanting the wine before serving to separate the sediment and allow the Port to fully express its aromas and flavors.
