2018 Chateau Lafaurie-Peyraguey, Sauternes France 375 ML

The 2018 Chateau Lafaurie-Peyraguey is a Premier Grand Cru Classe Sauternes from one of the appellation's most prestigious estates. The vintage is composed of 95% Semillon and 5% Sauvignon Blanc and was harvested by hand in three selective passes between September 25 and October 29. After a notably dry September delayed the development of noble rot, cool nights followed by sunny days allowed Botrytis to develop and the estate's team to make a meticulous selection of perfectly botrytised grapes. The resulting crop was exceptionally small, with a yield of just 7 hl/ha, but highly concentrated and expressive. The wine reveals roasted fruit, candied orange peel, apricot, apple compote, citrus, and delicate spice, with a rich yet precise palate balanced by freshness and mineral depth. Aged in French oak, including 33% new oak, it offers impressive concentration, elegance, and aging potential. This refined Sauternes pairs beautifully with foie gras, blue cheese, roasted poultry with fruit-based sauces, or elegant fruit desserts.
