The 2019 Charles Krug Generations Family Reserve is a Bordeaux-style red blend created to honor the Mondavi family's generations of winemaking at Charles Krug, Napa Valley's oldest winery estate. Established in 1861, Charles Krug has remained in the Mondavi family since 1943, and Generations reflects that long family legacy through fruit sourced from the family's Napa Valley estate vineyards. The 2019 blend combines Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot, with the fruit night-picked and the wine aged for 22 months in French oak.
Rich and full-bodied, the wine opens with blackberry and pomegranate alongside tobacco, bay leaf and dark cocoa. The palate is concentrated and layered, showing mixed berries, vanilla and toasty oak with firm, well-integrated tannins and a velvety texture. Its depth and structure make it an excellent pairing for grilled or roasted beef, lamb, hearty pasta dishes and aged cheeses. The 2019 vintage earned 97 points from Wine Enthusiast and 93 points from James Suckling.
