The 2020 Cartago Paraje del Pozo is an exceptional single-vineyard red wine from Bodegas San Román in the D.O. Toro, Castilla y León, Spain. Produced from old, ungrafted Tinta de Toro vines in the El Pozo vineyard near Villaester, this limited-production wine reflects the intensity and character of one of the region’s distinctive vineyard sites. The continental climate, high-altitude location and carefully selected grapes contribute to its remarkable concentration, structure and complexity.

Made from 100% Tinta de Toro, the 2020 vintage displays an intensely dark color and aromas of ripe blackberries, black plum and dark cherries, layered with smoky oak, graphite, ink, tobacco and toasted spices. The palate is powerful and full-bodied, with concentrated dark fruit, refined yet abundant tannins and a persistent mineral finish. Aged for approximately 30–31 months in new and used French oak barrels, this serious, age-worthy wine benefits from decanting and pairs beautifully with grilled ribeye, roasted lamb, braised beef, game meats and aged Spanish cheeses.
