2022 Sojourn Cellars Rodgers Creek Vineyard Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast California
The 2022 Sojourn Cellars Rodgers Creek Vineyard Pinot Noir comes from one of the cool-climate sites that helped establish Sojourn's reputation for vineyard-designated Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir. Rodgers Creek sits high on a ridge in the Sonoma Coast AVA, within the windswept Petaluma Gap area, where persistent Pacific winds and a cool maritime influence slow ripening and help preserve acidity. The site is known for its challenging conditions and is also capable of producing notable Syrah. Sojourn's focus on individual vineyards allows this bottling to show the character of Rodgers Creek rather than simply presenting a broad Sonoma Coast blend.
For 2022, Sojourn used 20% whole clusters during fermentation and aged the wine in 50% new French oak. The result is a powerful, site-driven Pinot Noir with the richness expected from this vineyard balanced by the tension created by its cool, windy environment. Owen Bargreen highlighted its concentrated texture and underlying tension, while Wine Enthusiast found black cherry, plum skin, forest floor and sarsaparilla on the nose, followed by blackberry, cedar, sage and anise. With a 95-point review from Owen Bargreen and 94 points from both Wine Enthusiast and International Wine Report, this vintage has the structure to develop further in the cellar.
