2023 Clos du Val Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley California
The 2023 Clos du Val Cabernet Sauvignon showcases the winery's classic Napa Valley style, combining expressive fruit, fresh acidity and polished tannins. Founded in 1972, Clos du Val is a third-generation, family-owned winery in the heart of Napa Valley's Stags Leap District, with a long-standing focus on elegant, Bordeaux-inspired wines. The 2023 growing season brought cooler temperatures and abundant rainfall, allowing the fruit to ripen slowly and develop concentration while maintaining freshness and balance.
The wine opens with vibrant aromas of black cherry, raspberry, blueberry and clove, with subtle notes of violet and spice. On the palate, blackberry, plum and cassis are balanced by bright acidity and supple tannins, leading to a long, smooth finish. Its combination of dark fruit, freshness and savory complexity gives it both immediate appeal and the structure to develop with additional bottle age.
The 2023 vintage is a Bordeaux-inspired blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc, 5% Malbec and 4% Petit Verdot. It was aged for 12 months in French oak, with 30% new oak. The result is a refined and approachable Napa Valley Cabernet that balances richness and structure without losing the freshness that defines the Clos du Val style.
