2023 Ken Wright Cellars Hirschy Vineyard Pinot Noir, Yamhill-Carlton, Willamette Valley, Oregon

The 2023 Ken Wright Cellars Hirschy Vineyard Pinot Noir comes from a 9.18-acre vineyard in Yamhill-Carlton, one of Oregon’s most established Pinot Noir growing areas. Planted in 2012 and 2013 at 350–375 feet, Hirschy sits on ancient marine sediments with Windy Gap and Dupee soils, and its southeast-to-southwest exposure gives the vines a long season of sunlight. Ken Wright Cellars has farmed the site sustainably, with four Pinot Noir selections planted across the vineyard: Wädenswil, 667, Pommard and 777. The 2023 growing season was particularly favorable, with good crop levels, extended hang time and very little extreme heat, allowing the fruit to ripen gradually while retaining freshness. 

The wine was aged for 10–11 months in French oak, with 20% new barrels, allowing the vineyard character to remain at the center of the wine. Dark and savory in style, the 2023 Hirschy combines violet florals, cocoa and spice with tart cherry, dried strawberry and vibrant blue and black fruit. Only 380 cases were produced, making this a limited single-vineyard expression from Ken Wright Cellars. The vintage received 92 points from Wine Enthusiast.
